Regional
Offices
There are five Regional Offices set up by AARDO, three in Africa and
two in Asia. The main Goal, Vision, and Mission of establishing the Regional
Offices, as decided by the 3rd General Session of AARDO Conference
held at Seoul, R O Korea during April 1968 are as under:
i)
Promotion of the interest of AARDO in the member countries of the
region and other countries of the region;
ii)
Enrolment of new members of AARDO from among those countries of the
region which have not yet joined;
iii)
Assisting in the execution of approved work programmes including
organisation of seminars, workshops and conferences in the countries
of the region;
iv)
Identifying the problem areas in the countries of the region and
submitting recommendations to the Headquarters of AARDO for
implementation of projects/conducting studies in the countries of
the region;
v)
Representing AARDO at national and international meetings, seminars,
conferences and workshops in the home country or the neighbouring
countries as may be directed by the headquarters; and
vi)
Functioning as data bank for information required by headquarters
and disseminating information regarding AARDO's activities.
Besides, the following additional responsibilities were entrusted to
the Regional Offices by the the 15th General Session of AARDO
Conference held in Damascus, Syria on 15-17 September 2005 in order
to enable them to enhance their regional level activities :
.
networking with centres of excellence engaged in research and
development in the region;
.
initiating post-training evaluation and providing a feedback to the
Headquarters at regular intervals;
.
identifying the problems relevant to the socio-economic development
confronting the region and suggesting the appropriate technical
activities to address them;
.
organizing Human Resource Development activities at regional levels;
.
undertaking study visits including farmers visits;
.
undertaking action research; and
.
supervising and monitoring development pilot projects.
The regional offices are regularly organising their Coordination
Committee meetings since 2006 to identify the regional level
activities and accordingly conducted the activities in their
respective regions.
The Regional Offices also sent proposals to the AARDO Secretariat
for inclusion in the technical work programmes for the triennium
2009-2011 and the same were incorporated in.
