Visits of the Secretary General
During April - September 2015, the Secretary General undertook the following visits:Republic of Zambia:
While in Zambia for the inauguration of an international workshop cum training programme , the
Secretary General, AARDO paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Vincent Mwale, MP, the Minister of Youth and Sport, Government
of the Republic of Zambia and discussed matters of mutual interest on 20th Mat 2015. The meeting was also attended by
Hon. Ronald Chitotela, MP, Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Security, Ms. Agnes Musunga, Permanent Secretary, Mr.
Charles Mweshi, Chief Planner, Mr. Collins Mulunda, Ministry of Youth and Sport, Government of the Republic of Zambia.
The Secretary General, AARDO also met H.E. Mr. Sindiso Ndema Ngwenya, Secretary General, Common Market for Eastern
and Southern Africa (COMESA), Lusaka and explored the possibilities for future cooperation and collaboration on issues of
common interest, especially on transformation of agriculture for sustainable livelihood and development of rural people.Sri Lanka:
At the kind invitation of the International
Tropical Fruits Network (TFNet), Selangor, Malaysia,
the Secretary General visited Sri Lanka to attend
TFNet's Symposium on “Sustainable Production and
Marketing of Tropical and Sub-tropical with Focus on
Potential Superfruits”; as an Observer and the 6th
Session of TFNet General Assembly, held in Colombo
from 3-6 August 2015. The Secretary General was
elected as one of the members of the Board of Trustees.
The Secretary General utilized his presence in Sri Lanka
to call on Dr. Mohd. Desa Hassim, the newly appointed
Chief Executive Officer, TFNet and discussed with him
matters of mutual interest. He also met Mr. B.
Wijayaratne, Secretary, Ministry of Irrigation and
Agriculture, Government of Sri Lanka and discussed
matters of common interests, including hosting of some
technical activities as well as the 67th Session of the
Executive Committee of AARDO in Sri Lanka.Republic of Korea:
On the kind invitation of the Hon'ble Chairman, Korea FAO Association & Global Agriculture Policy
Institute, Gyeonggi-do, Republic of Korea, the Secretary General attended the 14th Asia Pacific Agricultural Policy (APAP)
Forum on “Regional Integration and Public Private Partnership” held in Republic of Korea during 31 August-01September
2015. The Forum, launched in 2002, is a network and coalition of various organizations and individuals seeking to foster
understanding of agricultural policies and build cooperation in
agricultural development among countries in the Asia-Pacific
While in Korea, the Secretary General met the Hon'ble
Chairman, Rural Community-International Education Exchange
Centre (RC-IEEC) of Korea Rural Community Corporation (KRC),
Vice-Chairman and other officials, and explored the possibility
of cooperation between AARDO and RC-IEEC. The Exchange
Centre with all modern facilities is expected to begin its
operations in the year 2017. It will serve as a nodal point for
imparting training and building capacities of the Government
officials, project functionaries and farming community.
Hopefully, AARDO would be able to nominate some nominees
from its member countries to benefit from the rich and varied
expertise of the Centre.
Dr. Manoj Nardeo Singh, Assistant Secretary General, AARDO participated in a Brain Storming Session of the Global Forum
for Farmers (GFF), to inter alia chart its action plan, held on May 22, 2015 at the India International Centre, Lodhi Road,
New Delhi. This programme was organized by IFFCO Foundation, New Delhi.|
