Visits of the Secretary General & Assistant Secretary General
he Secretary General paid a visit to The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) Gurugram on 3 April 2017 to explore the possibility of collaboration between AARDO and TERI. The Assistant Secretary General and the Executive Secretary accompanied the Secretary General on the visit. Besides holding discussions on matters of mutual interest with the concerned authorities of TERI, they also observed various facilities, including Resource-efficient TERI Retreat for Environmental Awareness and Training (RETREAT), a model of sustainable habitat.
At the kind invitation of the International Cooperative Alliance-Asia and the Pacific (ICA-AP) , New Delhi, the Secretary General attended the 10th Asia Pacific Cooperative Ministers' Conference on “Visioning Ahead of 2030: Promoting Stronger Partnerships between Government and Cooperative Stakeholders in Realizing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)”, held in Hanoi, Vietnam from 18 to 21 April 2017. The Secretary General addressed the Conference during one of the Sessions, bringing out the work being done by AARDO for the promotion of cooperatives in its member countries. He also had discussions with some of the participating dignitaries.
At the kind invitation of H.E. the Minister of Food Agriculture and Livestock, Government of the Republic of Turkey, the Secretary General attended the Turkey-African 1st Agriculture Ministers Meeting and Agribusiness Forum, held in Antalya, Turkey on 27-28 April 2017. While in Turkey, he met with H.E. the Minister of Food Agriculture and Livestock, Government of Turkey and urged upon him to consider his country joining AARDO as a distinguished member. The Secretary General participated in one of the side events on 'Youth Unemployment and Women in Rural Development in Africa' and presented a paper highlighting the role of AARDO in promoting employment in rural Africa. He also called on some Ministerial level delegations and other senior dignitaries of African countries - both members and eligible members - and discussed matters of mutual interest.
At the kind invitation of the Government of Republic of Tunisia, the Secretary General paid a visit to Tunis, Tunisia on 2-4 May 2017 to hold discussions on matters of mutual interest, and to explore the possibility of Tunisia rejoining AARDO as its distinguished member. While in Tunis, he paid a courtesy call on H.E. the Minister of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries, Government of Tunisia and briefed him about AARDO's mandate of South-South cooperation and African-Asian solidarity and the benefits member countries are deriving from its activities. He invited the Hon'ble Minister to consider Tunisia rejoining AARDO as its distinguished member. While in Tunisia, the Secretary General attended many meetings and undertook field visits.
The Secretary General paid a visit to Egypt to inaugurate national level programme on “Capacity Building of Rural Women Leaders”, organised by the Regional Office of AARDO for North and Eastern Africa, in Cairo during 7-9 May 2017. While in Egypt, the Secretary General discussed with the Honorary Regional Representative for North and Eastern Africa, the activities of the Regional Office, including the possibility of hosting regional workshop for Arabic speaking member countries. Based on the discussions, the Regional Office organised regional workshop on “Application of Remote Sensing and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) in Agricultural Sector” in Cairo from 2 to 7 July 2017 that was inaugurated by H.E. Eng. Wassfi Hassan El-Sreihin, Secretary General, AARDO.
The Secretary General visited Jordan and held discussions with the Honorary Regional Representative of AARDO for the Middle East on further strengthening the activities of the regional office. He also met with the Hon'ble President of the Agricultural Engineers Association of Jordan to explore the possibility of some collaborative activities between AARDO and the Association.
The Secretary General paid a visit to Sudan to organise and attend the Fifth Meeting of the Technical Programme Committee (TPC) of AARDO, held in Khartoum from 09 to 11 July 2017, at the kind invitation of the esteemed Ministry of Agriculture and Forests, Government of Republic of the Sudan. While in Sudan, he paid courtesy calls on the concerned authorities in the Arab Organisation for Agricultural Development (AOAD), Arab Authority for Agricultural Investment and Development (AAAID) and Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA) and discussed matters of mutual interest as well as explored the possibility of AARDO's collaboration with the organizations.
At the kind invitation of the Uzbekipaksanoat Association and the Uzbek Research Institute of Natural Fibers, Uzbekistan, the Secretary General paid a visit to Uzbekistan to attend the International Scientific-Technical Conference on “The Role of Integration of Knowledge-Science in the Organization of Production at Textile Industry Enterprises and Resolution of Topical Problems” held at Margilan City, Fergana on 27-28 July 2017. While delivering his congratulatory remarks, the Secretary General apprised the gathering of the activities and programmes of AARDO and work being done by AARDO in promoting sericulture and silk industry in its member countries. He also had discussions with some of the participating dignitaries on matters of mutual interest.
At the kind invitation of the esteemed Ministry of Village, Development of Disadvantaged Region, and Transmigration, Government of Republic of Indonesia, the Secretary General attended the 2017 Village Development Forum – Senior Executives Meeting, International Symposium and Parallel Workshop on “Representing Village : Democracy, Autonomy and Prosperity”, held at Jakarta during 23-25 August 2017. During the Senior Executives Meeting, the Secretary General made his statement on theme of the forum, and apprised the meeting of the activities and programmes of AARDO. He also called on His Excellency the Ambassadors of South Africa in his office in the presence of Her Excellency the Ambassador of Venezuela to Indonesia, and explained to them the activities and programmes of AARDO as well as the benefits their countries could derive by joining the Organization.
Republic of Korea
At the kind invitation of the Hon'ble Chairman, Korea FAO Association & Global Agriculture Policy Institute, Gyeonggi-do, the Secretary General attended the 16th Asia Pacific Agricultural Policy (APAP) Forum on “Enabling Investment for Agricultural Competitiveness and Sustainable Rural Development through Regional Cooperation”, held in Seoul from 31 August to 1st September 2017. The Secretary General, in his congratulatory remarks, laid stress on making concerted endeavours to enhance national institutional capacity and regional cooperation in order to create a supportive policy environment for agricultural competitiveness and strengthened rural economy. He met with a delegation from Uganda and explained to them about the Organization and its activities, and benefits members are deriving from the Organization. He also paid a courtesy call on the Hon'ble Vice-President, KOICA and thanked him on his Agency's decision to organise a new joint training programme with AARDO.
He met with the delegations from some prospective member countries viz. Lao PDR and Bogor Agricultural University, Indonesia and briefed them about the activities and programmes of AARDO as well as the benefits they could derive by joining the Organization.
Republic of China (TAIWAN)
At the kind invitation of H.E. Mr. Tsung-hsien Lin, Minister, Council of Agriculture (CoA), Government of the Republic of China, the Secretary General paid a visit to Republic of China to attend the International Workshop on “Aquaculture Technology and Industry Development” sponsored by the esteemed Council of Agriculture (CoA) in collaboration with AARDO in Taipei on 18-22 September 2017. He delivered congratulatory remarks at the Workshop. He also paid courtesy calls on H.E. the Minister, Council of Agriculture (CoA) and to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs where he was received by Mr. Michael P Y Hsu, Director General, International Organizations and other senior officials of the Ministry. He thanked the esteemed Government of Republic of China for support for expanding technical activities of AARDO.
Visits of the Assistant Secretary General
The Assistant Secretary General paid a visit to Zambia during 17-21 July 2017 for the International Workshop-cum-Training Programme on “Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation” at the Mulungushi University. The Workshop was organized by AARDO in collaboration with the Ministry of Sport, Youth and Child Development, Government of the Republic of Zambia and the Mulungushi University, Kabwe, Zambia. The Assistant Secretary General graced the inaugural Session and prompted all the participants to share the knowledge and experience to come out with appropriate recommendations for AARDO member countries.
In Zambia, he inspected an AARDO assisted project in Mkushi District which was being implemented in the collaboration with the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Child Development and had discussions with the implementing partners to accelerate the completion of the project. While in Zambia, he made a courtesy call on the Hon'ble Minister of Youth, Sport and Child Development, Government of the Republic of Zambia and discussed issues of common interest. He also called on the Hon'ble Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth, Sport and Child Development and expressed his profound gratitude and appreciated for continuous support for successfully hosting the workshop.
The Assistant Secretary General also paid a courtesy call on the Hon'ble Secretary General, COMESA (Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa) and discussed matters of mutual concern and cooperation including the joint organization of a regional workshop.
