Meeting of TECHNICAL PROGRAMME COMMITTEE (TPC)

On the recommendation of the Sub-Committee on Reform of AARDO, the 56th Session of the AARDO Executive Committee had approved the formation of a Technical Programme Committee (TPC) comprising heads of the AARDO's centres of excellence and other relevant institutions. The TPC was constituted to guide the Secretariat in the formulation of triennial work programme. The first meeting of the TPC was held at the AARDO Secretariat during 4-5 March 2008. The Committee discussed the following:

i) Review of the technical work programme of the triennium 2006-2008;

ii) Ways and means to make the AARDO-sponsored training courses more effective for the benefit of AARDO member countries;

iii) Comments/suggestions received from member countries as well as the regional offices on the work programme for the triennium 2009-2011, etc; and

iv) Formulating suitable strategies and action plan on the operationalisation of some of the Articles of the New Delhi Declaration adopted by the Inter-Ministerial Summit on "Rural Development: Afro-Asian Perspective".

The outcomes of the TPC meeting were accordingly incorporated in the triennial technical work programme that was later on approved by the 16th General Session of the AARDO Conference.

It is now proposed to organize a meeting of Technical Programme Committee during 2010 to review the technical work programme of the current triennium as well as to discuss the technical work programme for the next triennium (2012-2014). Further, the meeting would seek advice of the training institutions as to how these training courses could be more effective for AARDO member countries. Besides, representatives of all the five regional offices of AARDO would participate in the meeting to contribute in strengthening of technical work programmes of AARDO. All expenditure in this respect would he borne by AARDO.
